What is Porcelain?
Porcelain is a compound medium composed of white burning clays, kaolin, and feldspar with a limited amount of ball clay added for plasticity. It is a high-firing clay like stoneware; however, when fired it becomes white, translucent, glass-like and very hard. Porcelain wares may be used in the same ways as stoneware, decoratively and functionally. Porcelain is considered the ultimate refinement of the potters' art. Since ancient times it has been valued for its whiteness, delicacy and depth of glaze colors, and as such, porcelain is more expensive than other stoneware due to the special circumstances imposed on the potter:
